In 2010 the questions for the General Ordination Examination will be made available electronically on the GBEC website. The GBEC office will instruct students and seminary administrators in advance how to access the questions and return the answers electronically.
The General Ordination Examination, written annually by the General Board of Examining Chaplains, covers these areas and provides to diocesan authorities part of the data they need to determine candidates' proficiencies. Bishops have been asked to nominate for the General Ordination Examination, by October 15, 2009, persons in their last year of theological education. Students now in seminary who do not have diocesan sponsorship may be nominated by their seminary Dean.
The General Convention Budget requires that part of the cost of administering and evaluating the GOE be covered by an "examination fee". The fee for 2010 will be $500.00. Most bishops pay the fee for persons they nominate. Fees for those nominated by seminary Deans should be paid by the seminarians themselves through the office of the nominating Dean. We cannot accept personal checks from students.
Information about the GOE and texts of past examination questions can be found at
www.episcopalgbec.org. Detailed information will be sent to persons nominated when their nominations are received. Questions and comments should be directed to:
